It can be rightly said that a person doesn't learn from experience, but learns from the reflection of that experience. Reflection is basically thinking over for an extended time period by linking the experiences recently occurred to the previous ones to promote a complex, interrelated schema. Or simply as mentioned by Dewey, reflection may be considered as a problem-solving form that chains several ideas along by linking these ideas to their predecessors to resolve an issue(UNSW, 2016). Reflective writing is more of analytical practice where the writer writes an imaginary or a real event or a thought, along with a personal reflection over the same. Reflective writing would be a combination of 2 aspects – reflective thinking and critical thinking. Both of these activities are inclusive of the factors that refine them like critical thinking is polished more by justifying actions, looking for deeper meaning, solving problems. Reflective thinking includes revisiting the experiences looking for better outcomes. Both the activities are shown below(UNSW, 2016).
I would look for comprehending and thinking in the lines of smaller steps of reflection like looking for better outcomes in any situation, questioning myself the questions that lead me to optimized solutions or deeper meaning to any event/ experience thus enhancing the results.
Time management usually refers to managing time effectively, so that the right amount of time is allocated to the right kind of activity. Since time is one thing that is lost that cannot be retrieved, it is essential that the time may be spent smartly depending upon the activity. Scheduling the priorities becomes the key factor here in determining the amount of time spent on different activities. Stephen Covey rightly puts down in different quadrants of scheduling priorities.
Decoding the same further, it is actually putting down the first things first. And learning how to Put First Things First addresses effective time management which can be an actual challenge for many people. Quite often, our focus is on things and time, which rather should be preserving and enhancing accomplishments and relationships. I would look over these aspects and prioritize accordingly quite in advance as being well planned is the key. As apparent in the figure above, many of our activities are majorly affected by two aspects, namely importance and urgency. Quadrant which states the urgent and important are the ones that are actually high priority tasks which need to be executed immediately. Rest of the quadrants can be planned and executed later whilst the tasks in the last quadrant may need to be reflected over if at all, they are required to be on the list (Chua, 2016). I would be following the simple rule of scheduling the priorities rather than prioritizing the schedule.
Certain strategies I observed I could develop to start aligning to the time limits of the tasks was carrying over a dairy in my handbag. To note down important tasks and deadlines, so as to never fail any deadline. Along with this, I started keeping a time track of tasks. So by the end of the day, not being too ambitious in the beginning, I would be at par completion of the desired tasks. This has definitely help me get on the track of the time. Prioritizing helps in selecting the tasks, thus giving a balanced day as well rather than bringing in anxiety when realizing the deadlines skipped.
